Banepa is a commercial town in Kavrepalanchok, east of Kathmandu. Its municipality includes the older town, the Nala settlements, Budol, the Janagal area, Bansdol and Sanga. Fourteen ward guides help distinguish these places on the map.
Temples and the old town
Chandeshwori Temple is one of Banepa’s principal religious destinations. The Nepal Tourism Board describes its three-tiered shrine and the festival held around Baisakh Purnima. Check the current festival date before planning a visit around it.
The municipal account of the old town describes Ganesh shrines, ponds, resting shelters, courtyards and dabalis, the platforms used for public performances. Start with Bholakha Tol in Ward 8, Laiku Darbar in Ward 9 and Hansraj Marg in Ward 7 for named streets and religious places. Kathu Ganeshsthan in Ward 5 includes the Chandeshwori chariot-platform reference; Budol in Ward 6 is another distinct town area.
Choose an area beyond the old town
- Tukucha Nala: Ward 1 and Dudamukh in Ward 2 cover different parts of the former village area.
- Nala: Thulochaur, Ward 3 and Ugrachandi Nala, Ward 4 have separate temple, pond and settlement references.
- The Janagal area: Pulbazar, Ward 10 and Sinagal, Ward 11.
- The former Mahendrajyoti area: Bansdol, Ward 12, including Basnet Gaun and Bhimsensthan references.
- The Sanga side: Bhaisepati, Ward 13 and Sanga–Nasikasthan, Ward 14.
Older village names can span several current wards. Pair the destination’s temple, street or settlement name with its ward number when checking an address. Dhulikhel and Panauti are separate municipalities with their own guides.
