Banepa is one of the oldest municipalities in Nepal and serves as the district headquarters of Kavrepalanchok. Located about 26 km east of Kathmandu, this historic Newari town lies at an elevation of 1,500 meters along the ancient trade route to Tibet.

The town is known for its well-preserved traditional architecture, ancient temples, and vibrant local markets. Banepa has been an important commercial center for centuries and continues to be a major hub connecting Kathmandu to the eastern hills.
