Tarakeshwor is a municipality on the northwestern side of Kathmandu, between Tokha and Nagarjun, with Nuwakot to the north. Its eleven wards bring together Sangla, Kavresthali, Jitpurphedi, Goldhunga, Dharmasthali, Futung and Manmaiju. The municipal centre is at Dharmasthali in Ward 6.
Choose a temple or village area
The municipality takes its name from Tarakeshwor Mahadev. For the Tarakeshwor Dham and Bhubaneshwori temple references, start with Jitpurphedi and Tinpiple in Ward 3. Kavresthali in Ward 2 covers Shantidham in upper Kavresthali, along with smaller temple and settlement references.
Sangla in Ward 1 has the old bazaar pond, Chuni Sangla monastery and Jagat’s Seti Devi Temple. Dharmasthali, Ward 6 has its own bazaar and Mahankal, Pusal Narayan, Pirkun and Pahara Ganesh temples. For Indrayani Temple and Nag Pokhari, choose Futung in Ward 7.
Goldhunga and the Manmaiju wards
The former Goldhunga village area is divided between Dagurnepani, Ward 4, with Purano Guhyeshwori Temple and Lolang references, and Goldhunga, Ward 5, with Mudkhu Gadhi and Batase Danda.
Manmaiju is shared across four current wards:
- Ward 8: Lambagar, Shanti Tol and Gairi Gaun references.
- Ward 9: Manmaiju Devi Temple and its chariot-festival context.
- Ward 10: Loktantrik Chowk, Lakhe Dol and Saptarishi Tol.
- Ward 11: Nepaltar, Hile Dol and Bindhyabasini Temple.
