Panauti Bazar is the municipal directory name for Ward 7. The municipality’s budget explicitly places Indreshwor Temple in this ward and also names Gupteshwor and Karunamaya temples.
The historic town
UNESCO’s Tentative List description centres Panauti’s architectural complex on the Roshi and Punyamati river junction. It identifies Indreshwor Mahadev, Brahmayani and the town’s other temples, rest houses and traditional buildings as parts of the wider historic setting.
The complex has been on Nepal’s Tentative List since 1996. This is a proposal for possible future World Heritage nomination, not an inscribed World Heritage property. The river and temple area crosses present-day ward references: Ward 6 has the municipal entries for Brahmayani Ghat and Triveni Tamaghat.
