Shankharapur brings together historic Sankhu, the Vajrayogini temple area and the hill settlements of northeastern Kathmandu District. Its nine wards cover the former village areas of Indrayani, Pukhulachhi, Bajrayogini, Lapsiphedi, Suntol and Nanglebhare.

- The old town: Pukhulachhi in Ward 6 and Sankhu Bazar in Ward 7 share the municipality’s historic-settlement references. Ward 7 also includes the Shalinadi pilgrimage area.
- The hill area: Bajrayogini in Ward 8 has Vajrayogini and Manichud references. Thangsang and Jhule in Ward 4 connect with the Jhule–Chisapani route.
- Village and neighbourhood addresses: explore Nanglebhare, Patap, Lapsiphedi, Suntol and Indrayani.
Sankhu’s heritage and pilgrimage traditions
UNESCO’s Tentative List describes Sankhu as a historic settlement on the trade route to Tibet, with traditional streets, squares, temples and rest houses. The proposal includes the Vajrayogini temple complex on the hill north of the town. Tentative List inclusion is a step toward possible future nomination, not World Heritage inscription.
The municipality identifies Vajrayogini Jatra, Indrayani Jatra, Shalinadi Mela, Manichud Mela and Madhav Narayan Swasthani observances among its traditions. Check the current year’s dates before arranging a festival visit.
