Gokarneshwor is a municipality in the northeastern part of Kathmandu district, formed by merging several village development committees. The area is known for the sacred Gokarneshwor Mahadev Temple, an important pilgrimage site dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The municipality encompasses both urban and rural areas, with traditional agricultural lands gradually transforming into residential neighborhoods. Gokarneshwor is home to the Gokarna Forest, a beautiful protected area that houses a golf resort and serves as an important green space for the valley. The forest is also significant for its wildlife and bird population.

The area maintains a mix of traditional Newari culture and modern development. The Gokarneshwor Mahadev Temple attracts thousands of devotees during the Shivaratri festival, while the surrounding areas offer peaceful escapes from the busy city life of central Kathmandu.
