*Machhegaun (मच्छेगाउँ)**
Ward No. 9 of Chandragiri Municipality is primarily known as Machhegaun, the former Machhegaun VDC (including its Ward No. 1 to 9), located in the south-western part of Kathmandu Valley.[1][3][4][9] No other distinct neighborhoods or toles within the ward are specified in available sources; it is consistently referred to holistically as Machhegaun.[1][4]
Machhegaun is a rural-fringe area recognized for socio-cultural studies, particularly of the Gopali caste, and its historical role as part of the former VDC merged into Chandragiri Municipality in 2014.[1][4][5] It features traditional Newar-influenced communities and is near Chandragiri Hill, historically significant as the vantage point from which King Prithvi Narayan Shah first viewed Kathmandu Valley, inspiring its unification.[5] The ward supports local administrative functions, including procurement activities, and remains less urbanized compared to central Kathmandu areas.[2][9]
